The peladillas have an origin that goes back very far. The most reliable version of historical sources speak of Roman times. The Romans offered this sweet to celebrate births and weddings. Although the almonds were covered with honey and flour, since the sugar had not been discovered.
In the Middle Ages the word Pebbles was used to name nuts and anise when coated with honey. At the time they were a sweet much appreciated by high officials and noble families.
The origin of the word pebbles comes from 'confectum' which means prepared or made.
As for weddings there is also some history. Tradition says that at the banquet, the pebbels are distributed by the bride and that with a silver spoon offers them a silver container to the groom during the return by the tables.
Another well-known tradition is the one to throw the pebbels to leave the church. The word 'sciarra' (fight, litigation) was used, as the niches fought to get all possible skin.
The sweetness symbolizes the purity, the two halves of the almond, the union and the sugar that surrounds it, the sweetness.
